2009

2009

2009 has been a excellent year in our development.

Our major activity for 2009 was our fundraising concert for the Qld. flood and the Vic. fire appeals. With performances also by The Wynnum RSL Pipe Band, Trend Dance Academy and Dance Works, we raised $800.00 for these appeals.

2009 saw the adoption of the new logo and the new polo shirts We have followed the tradition established by the Queensland Mounted Infantry (originally in 1860, The Brisbane Mounted Rifles as part of the then Queensland Light Horse) of using the colour Maroon to represent our Queensland home.

We successfully applied to the Queensland Band Association for the right to be the nominated organizer of the 2010 Qld State Band Championship competition. Congratulations to Henk for his efforts and now continuing efforts. See Gold Coast Bandfest for more info

By far our greatest achievement was getting our youth band started in June. We chose a name inspired by the Northern Territory's Combined Schools' Band. Our Brisbane "Bayside Combined Schools' Band" is 93% all primary school students and has attracted members form the Gold Coast and Ipswich. The band has already provided creditable performances to our community.

In September our Drum Corps made its first appearance which was at the Wynnum Spring Festival Parade.

OUR LOGO  - The centre piece is our Commonwealth Countries international symbol of civilian community musician. The two swords symbolize our military heritage whilst the boomerang symbolizes the heritage of our country and is an internationally recognized icon of Australia. This is all surrounded by our name and symbolizes our all inclusive ethos.
