Our
first performance for the year was for the RSL, South Eastern Districts,
Conference dinner.
April and may
have been busy with commitments to ANZAC Day, the Ipswich festival and
Brisbane May Day PDE. Then also the weekend at Emu Gully.
In June the
senior bands returned to Wondai for the Reserve Forces Day Commemorations
starting with participating in the Bowls, tournament, a concert on Saturday
and the parades and ceremonies on Sunday
July saw our
youth band perform at the Wondall Heights S. S. fete in the morning and our
senior bands providing pre-match and halftime entertainment at the
University of Queensland Rugby Union match.
In August the
senior band performed at the VP (end of WW2) commemorations and the Gold
Coast seniors' week concert at Southport.
In September we again played for the
University Rugby club game plus two new gigs, Redcliffe Festival and the
Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers
In October all QSHBA bands and the
National Servicemen's Pipe Band travelled to Nanango to participate in the
Nanango Mardi Gras. This year all of our groups came together again when for
the first time we participated in the Manly Halloween Parade.
November opened with a great
performance at the Manly Markets by our two youth Bands. Remembrance day
again saw the the senior band at Algester Bowls Club for the 1100am service
but this time a concert was also provided.
December brought us into Christmas and
again we played at the Wynnum Blue Care "Carols under the Stars". A new gig
this year was the inaugural Wynnum RSL Carols. Peter Yeo of PR music again
donated his sound and light services but it was with great sadness that we
heard that the next night, on his birthday, Peter suffered a fatal heat
attack. Peters' generous contribution to our organisation and performances
will be greatly and sadly missed.
The final gig for the year was again
the Nazareth house Carols
2012 - a great year especially marked
by the Bayside Youth Band being able to join the Senior band in the
Christmas concerts.

Our logo: The centrepiece is a symbol of our
recognition, appreciation and affiliation with civilian community musicians
throughout all Commonwealth nations. Above this are two swords which
symbolise our band's rich and historic military heritage. Below is a
boomerang which displays our recognition and appreciation of Australia's
First Nations' peoples. Indigenous Australians played a vital role in our
nation's military history and continue to do so, both in our military and
throughout society. Whilst the band operates throughout Queensland,
Australia and internationally, we would like to acknowledge and pay our
respects to the traditional owners of the land our headquarters are based,
that is the past, present and emerging Elders of Quandamooka country. The
logo is encased in our name and it is our aim that the combination of all
these elements symbolise our respectful yet dynamic and inclusive ethos.
